Oasis Takes On Christmas Food Challenges In Style

‘Tis the season once again, and that can mean only one thing- insane feats of gluttony backed by cold, hard cash.

This year the Oasis team took over Hy’s Steakhouse in Toronto for a Christmas party filled with food, drinks, and 3 mighty food challenges.

In classic Oasis fashion, none of these challenges were for the faint of heart.

Lindsay took on 5 plates of beef carpaccio and 3 servings of steak tartare. Vetura, Katherina, and Aanchal faced off head-to-head in a dessert challenge featuring cheesecake, crème brulee, banana foster, and a particularly dense chocolate bourbon cake. Unfortunately, these challenges ended with the competitors throwing in the towel- but there was one gastronaut who managed to rise above the rest.

Based on Mike’s suggestion that someone “run the gauntlet,” Juan took on a food challenge to eat the entire fixed menu for the evening in just 90 minutes.

(Juan’s menu should have said “and” instead of “or.”)

Though he negotiated his way to a single piece of cheesecake for the dessert component, Juan still had to plow through 3 appetizers, 4 entrees, and the cheesecake to claim his $1000 prize.

(Imagine eating 3 appetizers before  this…)

Luke even decided to fight dirty, showing Juan an unspeakably disgusting clip from “Fear Factor” (yes, that Fear Factor) mid-meal to throw him off his game. Though I’ve never seen anyone sweat that much during a meal, Juan emerged victorious from the challenge, with a few minutes on the clock to spare.

(That, ladies and gentlemen, is the face of victory.)

Although the highlight of the night was definitely Juan’s amazing victory, a great night was had by the whole team, even those who chose not to eat themselves into oblivion. It was a great celebration to end off the year, and a huge thanks goes out to the staff at Hy’s Steakhouse, as well as to James and Luke for an extremely fun and memorable evening! Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year from the Oasis team!
